September 23, 2022 is a day that went down in tennis history as the day when Roger Federer, considered the best tennis player in history, retired. The Swiss played the Laver Cup doubles match alongside top rival Spanish Rafael Nadal for almost 20 years. Despite saying goodbye to tennis with a defeat for (4-6, 7-6 (2) and 11-9), against the Americans Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe, Roger Federer shone, giving one of his best games in the company of the Spanish Rafael Nadal.

Roger had a flawless game from the beginning, where the central track was dazzled with every movement of the tennis player. Each serve and play were made with the purest feeling and combined with his experience gave his last master class of the sport. With the performance he was having he quickly positioned himself in the trends of social networks

The result was always in the background in this match, the spectators just wanted to enjoy the last performance of the most laureate of Wimbledon. Many personalities of the discipline were present, including Novak Djokovic who advised them with the changes, a trio that will never be seen again but that will remain in history.

At the end of the match Federer’s tears joined those of Nadal and 17,000 spectators who filled the O2 Arena in London. "The most important player of my career is leaving. In the end living that moment will be difficult, but it is clear that it is very exciting and I am very grateful," said Rafael Nadal. The Spanish tennis player despite the fact that this year has had ups and downs with his knee I do not hesitate to accept the invitation of the teacher to make a duet for this Friday.

For 24 years, Federer dazzled in the different tournaments of the world accumulating a record of pure Grand Slam. "I don’t know if I will be able to manage all this," said the 41-year-old Swiss at a press conference on Thursday, when he was asked if he feared that the excitement would come at different key moments of this unique day. "In the past I had very hard times, sometimes I was terribly nervous, before games over the course of all these years," he added.

"It was a perfect trip and I would do it again. I enjoyed playing tennis. It’s a wonderful day, I’m happy, not sad. Everyone is here tonight. It’s a fantastic night, there are too many people to thank," said Federer.

"Thanks to everyone, it’s been so many amazing years. It was a pleasure to play with Rafa in the same team and share with all my teammates all these editions of the Laver Cup. This final is exactly as I expected," added Federer, who retires from professional tennis leaving a legacy for eternity.
